Gingerbread fervor grips the Blue Ridge

For the first 17 years of the gingerbread festival sponsored by the Salem-Roanoke County Chamber of Commerce in southwest Virginia, gingerbread houses entered in the yuletide event’s annual contest were auctioned off for charity.

But under pandemic conditions, the chamber’s executive director says they can’t chance the excitement.
