One of the few times I used Substack’s poll function was in the wake of The Food Section’s first-ever subscriber reception in March 2022. I posted pictures of the signature seafood table that Brittney Simmons had created for the occasion, and quizzed readers on their preferences for the following year’s menu. Should we stick with shellfish? Or serve something else?

The response was overwhelming. “More crab!” the people said.
