Since creating a hall of fame in 2006 for businesses which best represent its iconic brand, Vienna Beef has honored 150 hot dog joints with induction. But until this year, none of them were based in the South (unless you count Florida and Texas, which The Food Section typically does not.)
In November, Campione’s Taste of Chicago in Gallatin, Tennessee joined the ranks of Chicago dog royalty, earning a spot in the virtual Hall of Fame alongside Windy City legends such as Original Jimmy’s, Gene & Jude’s, and Jake’s Pup in the Ruf. According to Vienna Beef, “Their throwback to the old days with Chicago’s famed ‘gravy bread’ is only exceeded by their equally endless honest neighborly conversation,” including with longtime Chicago radio personality Spike O’Dell, now a regular customer.
