Tradition withstands recent upgrades at Bush’s

Since it opened for business in 1985, Bush’s Seafood has become an essential Augusta-area destination for seafood with soul. Renown has not driven it upscale (the check still is delivered along with your meal); but Bush’s has upgraded. In 2022, oilcloth-covered communal tables were replaced by easy-wipe four-tops. Tasteful nautical art was hung on newly painted walls.

Although a modern sign recently appeared where a tattered movable-letter billboard once stood, it still is easy to drive past Bush’s when looking for it on the street that leads to the old mill town of Graniteville. An innocuous rectangular structure with a door at either end and picture windows in the middle, it could be a low-rent insurance broker’s office or a hair salon.
