By now you’ve read Kathleen Purvis’ story about Lupie’s Café and learned a little bit more about your TFS:CLT team. In other words, you might feel like we have something to celebrate in Charlotte.
Fortunately, we’ve got a TFS:CLT launch party on the books. Next Wednesday, March 4 from 5-7 p.m., we’ll be at Stylus, the cocktail lounge and listening room extension of Soul Gastrolounge, 4110 Raleigh St. #120. We hope you’ll join us for light bites provided by the wonderful team at Soul, a steadfast supporter of this delicious endeavor.
The party is free to attend—and if you’re a paying subscriber, your first drink’s on us.
If you’re not familiar, Soul was one of Central Avenue’s most beloved hangouts for 13 years before a lease issue forced it to close its doors in 2022. The good news: it’s back in a newer, bigger spot. You can still expect a small-plates menu heavy on sushi and sashimi, plus a smattering of Mediterranean flavors reflective of co-owner Andy Kastanas’ Greek heritage.
Think sashimi tuna tacos in crunchy fried-wonton shells, finished with dollops of puréed avocado; a pair of marrow bones mounded with parsley salad, and a vast selection of rolls, including a popular combo of spicy salmon, cucumber, and jalapeño, topped with escolar and two kinds of mayonnaise.
Soul’s new location is at The Pass, the mixed-use development off East Sugar Creek Road just north of NoDa. There’s plenty of parking (unlike at the Central Avenue location), but no need to drive: It’s right in front of the Sugar Creek light rail stop.
You’ll have a chance to meet The Food Section founder Hanna Raskin and our Charlotte-based team: Greg Lacour, Kathleen Purvis, and me. We’ll take a few minutes to tell you about our weekly newsletter, give you plenty of reasons to subscribe, and show you that we’re as fun in person as we seem in print.
If you want tell us what you’d like to see in the newsletter, we welcome that, too. Otherwise, you’re free to eat, drink, and mingle with Charlotteans who know their way around a good plate and a good pour.
