In what counts as a man-bites-dog story for the breakfast set, Kalley Largent and Robert Elliot last summer moved south so they could be closer to good bagels.

“Barrier Island Bagels were the best bagels I’d ever had in my life,” Largent says of the Southern Shores, North Carolina shop she’d discovered as an Outer Banks visitor. “We literally based our home choice to be closer to them.”
