Spirited Brunch is merely days away! And if the guarantee of free food, community togetherness, and learning new things hasn’t already persuaded you to put the event on your calendar, here’s one last pot sweetener: You can win big!
As you may recall from a previous newsletter, we have a new printed map for Spirited Brunch, our self-guided snack tour of downtown Charleston prayerful spaces that takes place this Sunday, 12:30-3:30 p.m. For the first time, participating houses of worship are listed in neat rows: The brochure kind of looks like a bingo card.
So, we figured, why not make it a bingo card? We’ve supplied all 22 congregations with stickers to distribute to visitors. All you have to do is collect four stickers in a row—whether horizontal, vertical, or diagonal—to enter your stamped map in a prize drawing.
I know. No-fee seafood salad, okra soup, pimento cheese sandwiches, and Huguenot torte already sounds like a reward. But why stop there? Here’s a peek at the prize packages available to randomly selected Spirited Brunchers:
- Want to keep snacking? Several houses of worship along the Spirited Brunch route have published collections of favorite congregational recipes. We’ve gathered up three of the most storied cookbooks—Circular Congregational Church’s “The Edible Gospel II: A Tasty Testament,” Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church’s “Popular Greek Recipes,” and Kahal Kadosh Beth Elohim’s “Historically Cooking,” available exclusively in the KKBE gift shop—for one lucky home cook. (Retail value: $75)
- Want to keep learning? Here’s your chance to eat your way to TFS paid subscriber status! We’re giving away an annual subscription at the Food Journalism Champion level, which includes a logoed t-shirt from The Food Section in your choice of size and color. (Retail value: $199)
- Want to keep touring? Finally, if Spirited Brunch puts you in the mood to tour historic properties in even higher style, the Preservation Society of Charleston has contributed a pair of Fall Tours VIP passes. Now in its 50th year, the Fall Tours (October 1-31, 2026) include walking tours, home tours, garden tours, and neighborhood tours—but only VIPs can go to four Saturday tours in a row. In addition to the packages above, Preservation Society of Charleston has also generously chipped in an annual family membership (Retail value: $50), which brings with it a 10 percent discount at the society’s shop and on select Fall Tours tickets, as well as invitations to special events. To round out the prizes, TFS is also furnishing half a dozen annual subscriptions at the Food Journalism Consumer level (Retail value: $99).
As always, you can’t win if you don’t play—which includes submitting your completed card for the drawing. You can either snap a picture of it with your phone and submit the file here, or you can drop off the card at Spirited Brunch headquarters during event hours.
