​Condemning sexual assault by powerful figures shouldn’t be controversial. But one prominent Charlotte chef who presents himself as a champion of women earlier this week suggested it was “tone deaf” for me to share a social media post to my personal Facebook and Instagram pages lamenting alleged abuses by Eric Swalwell, Tony Gonzales, associates of Jeffrey Epstein, and millions of visitors to the online “rape academy,” revealed on March 26 by CNN.

Sam Hart, the celebrated chef-owner of Counter-, North Carolina’s first Michelin-starred restaurant, on Monday night messaged me for the first time in more than two years to express his disapproval of my post. He wrote the following, capped by three clapping hands emojis:
