Meat and potatoes take off at Airport Grill

Trenton, South Carolina, population 196, has an airport. Twin Lakes Air Park, which doesn’t rate its own three-letter code (TLA is taken by Teller Airport in Alaska), offers small planes a single runway that straddles the line between Aiken and Edgefield counties.

At Airport Grill, just yards away, the menu lists appetizers under the headline “Take Off” and salads as “Lighter Flights.” That is the extent of whimsical aviation references in this low-slung highway diner where, despite its proximity to the airport, customers are more likely to be knights of the road than aces of the air.
