The Village Café is one of the quaintly named “Village Shoppes,” an assortment of storefronts outside the perimeter of Woodside Plantation, which bills itself as “a private, master-planned community with a diverse array of luxurious amenities.” Nobody gets in without passing through a security gate.
The café is close enough to the development that it could be a commissary for the rich people who live within. For many of them, it is. And yet there is nothing snooty about it. Accommodations are casual. Meals are reasonably priced. Hoi polloi are welcome. The process of getting something to eat is not so different from visiting a gas station snack bar. Order and pay at the counter; take a number to your chosen table so they can find you to deliver the food; unwrap your kit of utensils; and when you’ve finished eating, please bus your table.
