In just a few short weeks, The Food Section’s Nightcap newsletter has established itself as a must-read for folks involved in Charleston’s food-and-beverage scene. Nightcap editor Stephanie Burt has broken stories at breakneck speed, alerting diners to the return of Kinfolk chef Joe Nierstedt, Lowland’s absorption of The Quinte, and Brittney Simmons’ new setup long before other news outlets had any inkling of what was afoot.
But Nightcap readers don’t just see the news first. They can get a taste of it, too.
To celebrate Nightcap’s launch, TFS is throwing a party at Pink Cactus, the downtown Charleston restaurant which sponsors the Monday night newsletter. Of course, chef-owner Brooke Warden will serve queso, guacamole, salsa, and margaritas. But she’s also planning to give attendees a sneak peek of a dessert that she’s spent the past several weeks developing.

Thus far, only those on the Pink Cactus payroll have tried Warden’s pears poached in prickly pear syrup. Next crack at them belongs to TFS subscribers, who’ll have a chance to share their thoughts on the dish before it appears on a menu. You heard it here first!
By the way, the idea to loop TFS subscribers into the usually top-secret R&D process for restaurants came from the newsletter’s advisory board. (Thanks, team!) We hope to stage similar events in other Southern cities soon, since privileged information and insight is about the best perk we can offer paying subscribers. But if you live in Charleston or somewhere close to it, we hope to see you at Pink Cactus, 100 Spring St., on Monday, February 24, 6 p.m.-8 p.m.
The party’s free for paid subscribers, and there’s no need to RSVP. We’ll have your name at the door.

See you soon!
