JDubbz takes pub grub further

Marty Dubber is a chef worth his salt

JDubbz in New Ellenton calls itself a pizzeria, which it is; and its sign suggests that wings are a specialty, which they are. If that were the entire menu, I would eat at JDubbz often. But praiseworthy pizza and wings are just a couple of its attractions. Many things make it inviting, even such details as the fact that bottles of beer are pulled from a trough of ice, making them colder than bottles from a refrigerator. Or that every Thursday night the icy lagers sell for a dollar apiece.

No doubt, JDubbz is a good place to drink beer. It also is a place to eat, and the food it serves goes beyond what cheap beer suggests. One thing that makes it special is that chef Marty Dubber dreams up a unique hamburger every week. The third week of July, it was two patties of beef and chorizo ground together and smash-cooked, topped with queso Chihuahua and a scattering of flash-fried jalapeno pepper chips. Not fiercely hot but emphatically spicy, the combination of ingredients ventured well beyond the world of short-order hamburgers.
