Sista’s on Montford, operated out of the Montford Convenience store by mother-daughter duo Rhonda and Khiyara Wynn, along with the younger Wynn’s partner, Nick Benjamin, has quickly become one of Asheville’s most talked–about new food spots, despite offering no dine-in seating and working from a deli-style setup.
Its specialty is soul food. That kind of cooking is at the root of Asheville’s Black culinary story, which spans church basements, neighborhood cafés, family tables, and anchor businesses in historically Black neighborhoods. Many of these gathering places—and the dishes that defined them—were lost during urban renewal due to intentional displacement and rising rents.
