Of all the topics I get to cover, fried chicken might be my favorite.

That’s in large part because almost everyone likes fried chicken, and everyone has opinions about it. Whenever I start to worry that I’m writing into a black hole, I just have to throw off the phrase “leg and a thigh” to stir up readers. After I published a guide to the best backroads fried chicken across South Carolina, I heard from countless readers who followed the path I plotted—and one subscriber who wrote a novella about the experience.
