Like humans, every restaurant has a personality: drab or delightful, enchanting or aloof, stylish or old school. The personality of Blue Top Grill in Graniteville puts me in mind of a character that might have been created by (or played by) novelist and actor Fannie Flagg: outgoing, quirky, country-smart.
When I visited one day a few weeks ago, at 11 a.m. when the single-room café opens, seats were empty. Conversations among the half dozen cooks and servers behind the counter in the semi-open kitchen, ready for the lunch crowd, rang out like a flock of parrots chattering about current events, personal finances, Thanksgiving plans, and the end of summer tomato season.
