Don't make a space for sweet potatoes

Lest prospective festivalgoers think they can’t tell their tubers apart, organizers of the Ham & Yam Festival in Smithfield, North Carolina make clear on the event’s website that “the sweet potato you will find at the festival is not really a yam. But ‘yam’ rhymes with ‘ham’…so it has been in the name for over 35 years.”

That mea culpa might not satisfy the North Carolina SweetPotato Commission.
