The plates at 220 Café in Statesville are white and rectangular, like those at many sit-down restaurants. Most likely, the café chose its dinnerware because it is durable and attractive; a manager never returned my call asking for more information.

But it’s possible that decision-makers at 220 were mortally torn between the homegrown options. 220 Café sits at the exact geographic midpoint between the corporate headquarters-slash-manufacturing facilities belonging to Asheville’s East Fork and Burlington’s Haand, the state’s restaurant pottery heavyweights.
