Daide has been the face of The Food Section’s campaign to raise money for Heart of Alabama: Save, Rescue, Adopt (HASRA), mostly because he’s my favorite of the 50-odd dogs at the no-kill, nonprofit rescue in Killen, Alabama. Piano man here is playing my song.

But while all readers of The Food Section may share an interest in independent food journalism from and about the American South, I get that they might not all have the same taste in four-legged friends. I like an energetic dog with a sense of humor, but you might well be drawn to the calm, contemplative type.
