Believe the words farm to fork. At JM Smith Farms in the South Carolina Midlands hamlet called Harmony, Christine and Jake Smith grow much of what they serve in the restaurant they opened in Edgefield three years ago. Produce they don’t grow, they get from neighbors.

A few weeks ago, when a basket of oven-hot biscuits was brought to the table, Christine Smith stepped up to suggest we appreciate their accompanying strawberry butter because pretty soon Edgefield County peaches would be at their best, meaning she was going to bench the strawberries to make way for peach butter. “And peach bread pudding, too,” our server added with a mischievous grin.
