A martini is normally garnished with a lemon or olive, but at some bars, your drink could end up with a touch of the paranormal instead. Venues offering strong alcohol seem to attract ghosts—or at least stories about them.
“Most of the ones I’ve heard of are haunted by spirits who were there before the space was a bar and have hung around,” says Clair McLafferty, a Charlotte-based bartender and author of Spooky Cocktails. “Interestingly enough, many of the spirits are said to come out to play when the space is dark and the crowd has left. Maybe they got used to the quiet in the time between the space being theirs and when it was a bar.”
