Hours after Helene blew through Atlanta, hundreds of local Muslims gathered inside The Atlanta Masjid of Al-Islam on Fayetteville Road for Jumu’ah, a Friday congregational service with sermons and prayers.

In the parking lot, Abdul Salaam Akbar lowered the tailgate of his truck and set up a small table. He and his school-aged son began unloading the fruit packaged in to-go quart containers that he sells to loyal customers for $10 each. He’s been vending after Jumu’ah for 28 years, longer than anyone else.
