Daily Digest is a recurring column in which residents of the American South share their eating days.

SUE HARDY lives in Macon, Georgia

Breakfast? Let me see: I had a fried egg and whole wheat toast, with a lot of fruit. Strawberries, blueberries, oranges; a lot of fruit. I wash it, cut it up, and eat it with a raw carrot. You know, a small one. Just eating fresh. Fresh is good.

Then, I drink a lot of water, and for dinner, lo mein. I didn’t really want to eat lo mein, but I did. I threw in chick and green onion and one egg. Then I put some other spinach and a bunch of other greens on it.
